The Fall of Order

This project is about designing a sports center on a virtual urban site. The site for building construction is 83’ by 50’, with canal on the backside and streets on the front. Each of us stage our site right next to each other into two rows, sharing a party wall with the neighbor. We imagine the site can be existed in anywhere of the world, the ambiguity of site makes the project become extremely interesting.

The project focuses on the interpretation of grid in the form of architecture. Grid falls into the design as a design technique, as layers of information, as the frames for views.

The project is an investigation about the potential of grid. When gird falls into the design process, what’s the interpretation of it in form, in architecture, or in perception. My focus is about the overlaps of grid in the form of orders in architecture, when multiple layers of grids collapses into a single architecture, the reading of the grids becomes less literal, the meaning behind can be very profound and spatially, sensorially interesting.
